ANNOUNCEMENT: On November 23, 2009 the New York Wind Resource Explorer application will no longer be available.
Beginning in October 2009, AWS Truewind's new web-based prospecting and siting application for small wind users and installers, Small windExplorer, will be available. The new application, commissioned by the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) offers constituents public access to highly accurate, site-specific wind resource maps and reports will be used to determine site viability under NYSERDA's installer incentive program.
The Small windExplorer interface features newly validated 200 meter horizontal grid resolution wind maps and two reporting options for residential users and eligible installers. These reports include average annual wind speeds at 80, 100, and 120ft hub heights, a wind rose image, a wind resource map displaying mean annual wind speeds and an interpretation of the results. By incorporating high-resolution wind resource data at appropriate heights the Small windExplorer user will have enough information to make an informed decision about their project site.
